What are your biggest musical inspirations (or things that inspire your writing the most)?
My music is an unconscious mix of various inspirations:

You can take one book and one movie from the present and you can put it in a special time machine mail box that will send that book and movie back to your 16 year old self (and don't worry, the book and movie will not disappear if they are sent to a time before they existed - the time machine mail box has been specifically designed to deal with this situation). What book and what movie would you send and why?
It think it would be Sean Penn's "Into the wild". This movie probably made everyone who saw it wonder "damn, would I just be ready to leave everything like this guy did?". Anyway this film did make me ask myself some questions about my aspirations in life, even though I was not really ready to tear up my credit card and pack my rucksack ;) I first saw this movie at the time I used to listen to Bon Iver's first album a lot, and was really kinda fascinated by that whole 'let's get lost in a cabin in the woods' thing. I wanted to have my 'cabin in the Alps' recorded album :)
My bonus answer would be that I wish I had seen Wes Anderson's filmography earlier. He's undoubtedly one of my favorite directors, I love how he mixes drama and humor, and the way he depicts family relationships. |

I suppose my biggest inspirations come from life- the people and experiences that it holds. I seem to write the most when I'm learning the most, or experiencing some emotion, person or aspect of life that I haven't before. |

Book- This is a tough one, but I would probably have to go with 'The War of Art' by Steven Pressfield because it's all about knowing how to break thru all the resistance that comes with trying to create something great. I think maybe it would have helped me catch on a little faster, not have wasted so much time being scared. Movie- I think I'd have to go with 'American Beauty' not only because it would scare the shit out of my 16 year old self, but because it would also force me to think a little broader about life. |

Name one song you wish you had written instead of whoever actually wrote it. Basically anything by Feist. It's pretty safe to say that I think just about everything she does is pure gold. She has this ability to write songs that are both extremely simple and bare and yet wrought with all kinds of depth and layer. If I can reach that ability in my writing I could die happy. |
