Tricked by the internet, Benjamin Shaw spent the month of October 2010 writing and recording an album. Here then, is 36 minutes of mumbling, noise, piano and noisey piano. Please enjoy and pass it onto your friends and enemies as you see fit.

"I believe Jamie from Audio Antihero sent me a link to the International Make An Album Month website, possibly as a taunting joke, and I took him at his word and set out to push egg into his stupid, gurning, doubting face. I came up with a thirty second long song first of all, with a nice wee melody, and out of lack of time and/or creativity, I decided to try and base the whole album around this one melody. With the finished product, I'm not sure I quelled Jamie's doubt right away, as his first comment upon hearing it was “it is a bit difficult in the middle”, but I feel utterly proud of it, in all of its difficulties and daft noises.”

It should be noted that this album is a grower. At first listen your girlfriend might say 'What is that noise?'. Well, maybe your girlfriend will never quite get it, but really, maybe she listens to do much Aretha Franklin anyways. But put this album on while you troll about the internet for awhile and it will creep up on you. You'll find they nestle in somewhere close to where all those old Jandek albums used to live, before he went all mainstream.

The album is available as a 'pay what you like' deal and I think Benjamin Shaw is the kind of guy who, if you met him in real life, you'd probably be willing to buy him a pint. Now is your chance to do that (kind of).

“Having a pay-what-you-like system for the record has meant that I have occasional deposits of money in my paypal account, enabling me to have a guilt-free personal pot of online money to buy records with. Some of which have recently included Lessons in Time's wonderful new album, the Hi54LoFi recommended (pop-gem) Share-a-Tories album, and the heartbreaking, and ALWAYS bad-mood-calming-at-work, Tiny Ruins and a Singer of Songs EP 'Little Notes'.”

What Others Are Saying:

The Creative Intersection: “Crafted in a self-imposed time limit of one month, the eight tracks here are largely piano based layered with perfectly inserted noise and noise collages, prodding and tinkering to make quite wonderful ambiance that still somehow manage to convey the same scope of emotions that has been displayed in all of Shaw's previous work.”
